The truth about healing
Healing is an indomitable force and undertaking the task of true healing is not for the faint of heart. But getting through to the other side of things is so worth it.
The structures we build following deep hurt, betrayal, heartbreak, violation, and/or wounds are there to protect us and to shelter us. Because the reality is, life keeps truckin’ along and it doesn’t stop nor does it care. The deadlines are still there, your work hours still need to be fulfilled, your bills keep coming, and, and, and, and, and…
So within the safety of the structures, we can put our heads down, nose to the grind, and just continue pushing through.
And inevitably at some point, the proverbial clouds will part, and suddenly what caused us to build those structures of protection doesn’t feel as potent or all consuming.
The way I see it, and have lived through, is that you have two options:
Keep on moving, leave the structures in place.
Slow things down, start dismantling the structures.
The former is what is “easiest”, but I say that with the acknowledgement that pain will still rear its head in sometimes the most innocuous situations. And that this is temporary and eventually you’ll have to address it whether that is in a year, a decade, or when a situation presents itself where you can no longer stay in status quo.
The latter is what is the hardest but also the most worthwhile.
For you see, the force of healing does not and cannot discern what structures were built for protection and what structures were there as a part of building you up. When we enter deep healing, everything gets taken down. Yes, everything.
It might feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you.
You might not even know who you are now.
Questions may arise in asking, are you on the right path?
It could even feel… empty.
How I see it, this is a result of healing. Stripping and demolishing everything down to the slabs (maybe even beyond the slabs and down to the earth itself).
I’m in that place right now and still making sense of the hard truths I faced in Bali. They say everything worthwhile is on the other side of hard work and overcoming fears.
So here I go….
So here we go!
Pouring down new foundation to take up more space and build upwards far greater than we could have ever imagined.
