🍀 She’s so lucky

You’re soooo lucky.

I hear it all the time.

And the truth is, I am.

The outsider’s POV is…

That my life is super rad.

It is.

That my life is so fun.

It is.

That my life is so rewarding.

It is.

Okkkaaayyy… Wtf, KM?

Is this your entire blog post?! 🤣

Let’s talk about luck.

What is luck?

A surface level answer might be that luck is when things just fall into your lap.

Yeah… kind of.

But the deeper answer holds much more complexities.

More than a decade ago, I met a woman in NYC because I bought a piece of jewelry from her. And hours later, I ended up running into her at a grocery store.

We sat and talked on a bench just outside the store and just minutes into meeting each other, she asked me, what do you want? And what happened next was right out of a movie scene. The two of us deep in conversation on a park bench somewhere in SOHO. So engrossed in talking with each other, the city blurred past us without us noticing. Hours later, she literally took my hand, pulled me up from the bench, and brought me to a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant where I had the best soupy dumplings in North America (I still go whenever I’m back in the city). Our conversation continued…

She taught me that luck can be somewhat controlled.

And I tell my Mynah birdies in yoga teacher training the same lesson that has served me so well. Because when you reframe luck, it starts to work in your favour.

We can’t control when the opportunities will present itself. But we can control getting ready for those opportunities.

You want “x”?

What skillset would you need to sharpen or gain in order for you to fulfill “x”?

Break it down.

Would you need to enrol into a workshop or course?

Would books and talks help you gain more insight and perspective?

Would finding a teacher help?

Wanna go further? Be honest.

What parts of yourself do you need to heal for you to fully embody the opportunity? (I’m still working on my own imposter syndrome and deprogramming and dismantling limiting belief systems).

Because here’s the sauce…

Luck is the combination of being ready when the opportunity presents itself.

So when people tell me, you’re so lucky.

I agree. I am so lucky because I have put in the hours to sharpen my skillset and I am always at the ready when opportunities strike like ⚡️lightening.

If we don’t feel it in our bones that we are ready, the opportunity will simply flash by.

But if you’re standing right at the edge of the dock with everything packed and ready to go, you’ll be able to jump onboard without the opportunity sailing past you.

And somehow, when you start this practice, it’s like the universe answers in kind and continues to present opportunities to you.

And you say, yes! Yesss!! YES! Fuck yes!!

Also, don’t forget in the words of my dear friend, Michael Franti, “just work hard and be nice to people”… because you also never know who you’re meeting and what doors of opportunity they might present to you.

🍀 I wish you all the very best of luck, pals. 🍀
